I’ll be out at TCAF this year in Toronto as part of the RAID room. Most of my work will be available as prints, either 13 x 19 or 8.5 x 11 on some fine Epson papers. I will also have some small “World at War” postcards in packs of 3.

Come by and say hi if you’re in the area, admission is FREE! The show has some amazing artists attending and you never know what you will find.

Cyborg 009 “Countdown”

Finished up the final 9 pages this week of Cyborg 009. It’s been a great project and I had a little roll call as each page completed. The entire 105 page graphic novel will be available in July from Archaia publishing. Thank you everyone for the support these past months.

“MIAMI CONNECTION”

Tribute poster to the Drafthouse Films release of ‘Miami Connection’. A band of black belt orphans take on the narcotic peddling motorcycle ninjas of Miami. Check it out.

Should be the last illustration for a bit, other work has picked up but I will try to find time to draw a few ideas floating around in my head. This was mostly done digitally without the usual pencil base. Mixing of Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop. Slightly changed my process which was fun. Tried my best at mimicking the movie credits. Enjoy!

Archaia and Ishimori Production Inc. are teaming up to re-interpret Shotaro Ishinomori’s classic manga series Cyborg 009 for Western readers. The new edition is written by F.J. DeSanto (The Spirit, Immortals: Gods and Heroes) and Bradley Cramp (Gattaca), and illustrated by Marcus To (Red Robin, The Huntress). Archaia has provided ROBOT 6 with an exclusive preview of the graphic novel, set for release early this year.

The story is about nine people who are kidnapped from around the world to become test subjects by The Black Ghost Organization, a secret society that provides weapons of mass destruction to the highest bidder. The victims are put through a series of experiments that transform them into super-powered weapons, but with the help of a compassionate project scientist, the living weapons rebel, escape, and set off on a mission to stop Black Ghost from plunging the world into a perpetual state of war.

The publisher states: “Created in 1964, Cyborg 009 was Japan’s first and most-popular super-team, quickly becoming one of the most influential manga series of all time. The original manga has been published in over 250,000,000 copies of weekly comics and comic books worldwide.” There’s also a new, 3D CGI animated feature film in the works in Japan, and DeSanto is working to produce a live-action version.

I am so insanely hype for this and Kenji Kamiyama’s 009 RE:CYBORG film. Marcus To has hit it out of the park with the art on this book and I hope the writing is just as good. It’s also being published by archaia, and archaia is pretty much guaranteed quality.

Thanks for Tumbling this, I’m glad that we finally get to start showing some pages to this book. Also the colourist Ian Herring is killing it on this and making my work a million times better.

Sketchbook Pro Samus Demo

I attended FanExpo in Toronto this weekend and was able to try out Sketchbook Pro on a Cintiq for a demo. I was sorta new to the program, so the guys at the booth gave me a quick tour. I couldn’t quite remember Samus’s colours at the time so hopefully this was close enough.

Thanks to everyone who patiently waited for me to finish and picked up a print. I was nervous drawing in front of people with a screen behind me at first but that feeling disappeared by the end of the session.

While working on the Casey Jones Micro Series (posted below) I found an old episode of Ninja Turtles. Casey got a job so he could infiltrate a shadowy corporation that had been taking over other companies in a hostile manner (with Ray Guns!). Bebop and Rocksteady are revealed to be executives with Shredder as the president.
